The questions below cover the purchase, the app itself, and what MiaoSense does with what it sees and hears. If your question is not here, write to support@miaosense.app — a real person reads it.

Payment, charges & refunds

I paid, but the app still asks me to unlock. What now?

Open the unlock screen in the app and tap Restore purchase. Your purchase belongs to the Google account you bought it with, so make sure the device is signed in with that same account, and that it has an internet connection — restoring needs one.

If it still does not unlock, write to support@miaosense.app and include the order number from your Google Play order history.

What is this charge on my card or bank statement?

The purchase is billed by Google Play, so your statement usually shows a Google Play entry rather than the app name. The merchant behind it is Robert Sommer, Munich, Germany — the provider of MiaoSense.

If a charge looks unfamiliar, check your Google Play order history first; it lists every purchase with its app name.

Is this a subscription? Will I be charged again?

No. MiaoSense Pro is charged once. There is no subscription, no renewal and no recurring charge.

If you ever see a second MiaoSense charge, contact support@miaosense.app and we will look into it with you.

The app says my payment is being processed. What does that mean?

Some payment methods do not settle instantly — direct debit, carrier billing, prepaid top-ups and cash payments can take hours or days. Until then the purchase is pending, and the app shows that it is being processed.

Restore purchase will not help while a payment is pending — there is nothing to restore yet, and it will report that no purchase was found. The app unlocks by itself once Google confirms the payment, and it notifies you. If nothing has happened after 48 hours, write to support@miaosense.app with the order number.

How do I get my money back?

Payment for this purchase is handled by Google Play, so refunds run through Google and not through us. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Google is also the seller of record. Open Google Play, go to Account, then Order history, and select the order.

Self-service refunds are generally available within 48 hours of purchase; after that, Google Play Support reviews requests case by case.

If something about the app itself is defective, write to support@miaosense.app first — that is often faster than a refund, and it does not affect any statutory rights you have against the seller. On the right of withdrawal specifically, see our withdrawal notice.

What is MiaoSense Pro, and what exactly did I pay for?

MiaoSense is free to install and gives you three free analyses. After that, MiaoSense Pro unlocks the app permanently:

  • Unlimited mood analyses
  • The full observation history
  • Mood trends and the activity heatmap
  • Profiles for several cats
  • Remote cameras (MiaoWatch)
  • Exports without a watermark

It is a single one-time purchase, not a subscription. The price that applies to you is shown by Google Play before you buy; it differs by country and applicable tax.

What counts as one analysis?
  • Live view: one analysis per continuous observation, counted from the first emotion detected.
  • Photo: one analysis, if a cat is detected.
  • Clip: one analysis, if a cat is detected.
  • A run in which no cat was detected does not count.

The three free analyses are not refilled — there is no monthly reset.

Why was I charged a different amount than the price I saw?

Google Play sets the price, collects it and shows you the amount that applies to you before you confirm. It can differ from a figure you saw earlier for three ordinary reasons:

  • Tax: the store price already contains the tax of your country, and that rate is not the same everywhere.
  • Currency: if your payment method runs in another currency, your bank converts the amount and may add a fee of its own.
  • Timing: a regional price or a promotion can change between the moment you first see a figure and the moment you pay.

What you actually paid is listed next to the order in your Google Play order history. If that amount does not match what Google showed you at checkout, it is a billing matter for Google Play Support — write to support@miaosense.app as well, and we will follow it up from our side.

I have a new phone. Do I have to buy MiaoSense Pro again?

No. The unlock belongs to your Google account, not to the phone.

Install MiaoSense on the new device while it is signed in with the same Google account you bought with, open the unlock screen and tap Restore purchase. If you have moved to a different Google account, the purchase stays with the old one — Google cannot carry a purchase across accounts, and neither can we.

Your observation history and your cat profiles are a separate matter: they are stored on the old device and are not carried over. Export what you want to keep before you pass the old phone on.

It is a one-time purchase — will the app keep getting updates?

Yes. The unlock does not expire, and it is not a subscription for a service. We provide updates for the app, including security-relevant ones, for as long as you can reasonably expect given the nature and purpose of the product — that is the standard European law sets for digital products (§ 327f BGB, implementing Directive (EU) 2019/770).

If we ever stop providing them, we will say so on this page rather than let it happen quietly.

Using the app

Which devices does MiaoSense run on?

Android 8.0 or newer. MiaoSense is an Android app; there is no iOS version. The analysis runs on your device, so an older phone will work but will be slower than a recent one.

Do I need an internet connection?

Not for the analysis itself — camera, microphone and every analysis run locally on your device and work offline.

You do need a connection to buy or restore MiaoSense Pro, because that check runs through Google Play, and to reach a remote camera.

Why does the app ask for camera and microphone access?

The camera is how MiaoSense observes posture, movement and facial expression. The microphone is how MiaoLingo picks up meows, purrs and hisses.

Both are processed entirely on your device, in real time. Neither the video nor the audio is recorded, and nothing is uploaded — what MiaoSense saves is the result of an analysis, never the footage it came from. You can use the app with the camera alone if you do not grant microphone access.

The app does not recognise my cat, or the result looks wrong.

Try to get the whole cat in frame, side-on rather than from directly above, in even light and without strong backlight. Recognition needs a visible body outline.

Beyond that: the results are estimates derived from visible patterns, not certainties. Lighting, camera angle and unusual postures affect them, and no human reviews a result before you see it.

Your videos and your data

Do my videos or recordings leave my phone?

No. Every analysis runs on your device.

No video, no audio and no behavioural data is sent to a server, to us, or to anyone else. There is no account and no login, which means there is nowhere for that data to be stored outside your phone. The details are in our privacy policy.

How do I delete everything MiaoSense has stored?

In the app, open Settings and choose Delete all data. You confirm by typing DELETE. This permanently removes all sessions, cat profiles and consent records from the device in one step, and it cannot be undone.

Media files you exported to your gallery are outside the reach of the app — you can remove those yourself under Pictures/MiaoSense and Music/MiaoLingo.

What happens when I add a remote camera (MiaoWatch)?

MiaoSense opens an outgoing connection to the address you enter, which may be on the internet, for the sole purpose of receiving that camera’s video stream. Your network and the operator of that address can see the connection.

The stream flows inward only: no video, audio or behavioural data is sent out, and the analysis still happens on your device. You are responsible for having the right to view the camera you enter — our Terms set out what that means in law.

What MiaoSense cannot tell you

Can MiaoSense tell me whether my cat is ill or in pain?

No, and it does not try to.

MiaoSense describes what it observes — posture, movement, vocalisation — and turns that into an impression of your cat’s mood. It makes no statement about illness, pain or health, provides no diagnosis and gives no treatment advice.

If you are worried about your cat, please see a veterinarian.

Still stuck?

Write to support@miaosense.app. The link opens a message with the five lines we need already in it, and where to find each one.

Response time: usually the same working day, and within two working days at the latest.

If you have heard nothing by then, write again — or, if it is about money, request a refund through Google Play directly.

Whether the right of withdrawal still applies in your case, and how to declare it, is set out in our right of withdrawal notice. Where it applies, the withdrawal must be declared to Google, because the purchase contract is concluded with Google — most reliably through Google Play Support, stating explicitly that you are withdrawing from the purchase and not merely requesting a refund. To meet the deadline it is enough that you send your statement to Google in time. You may also send it to widerruf@miaosense.app: we aim to forward messages we receive to Google promptly, but we cannot assure that this preserves the deadline. For anything that is neither of these, there is hello@miaosense.app.
